Biomass Energy for Sri Lankan Factories: Replacing Furnace Oil & LPG

Process heat is often a factory's biggest energy spend, and furnace oil and LPG track the exchange rate. Biomass replaces them with a local, low-cost, carbon-neutral fuel, steam and hot air at a fraction of the cost.

How biomass heat works

  • Paddy husk, an abundant by-product of rice milling.
  • Coconut shell and husk, high-energy residues from the coconut industry.
  • Sawdust and wood offcuts, often compressed into briquettes for consistent firing.

Because the fuel is biogenic, the carbon released was recently absorbed by the plant, so well-run biomass is broadly carbon-neutral, and it keeps energy spend circulating in the local economy rather than flowing offshore.

Biomass fits any operation with a steady thermal demand currently met by furnace oil or LPG:

  • Desiccated coconut and rubber processing;
