How we keep it light
Efficiency built into every page
Static by default
The site is pre-rendered to plain HTML and served straight from the edge. There is no heavy framework running in your browser, so pages load fast and draw very little power.
Optimised imagery
Photographs are the heaviest part of any page, so ours are compressed, correctly sized and lazy-loaded. Images you never scroll to are never downloaded.
Almost no JavaScript
Only a few kilobytes of script power the menu and the assistant. Lighter code means less data, less processing and lower emissions on every device.
Edge delivery
Cloudflare caches the site across a global network, so each visit travels the shortest possible distance. Shorter journeys for data mean less energy spent moving it.
How we measured it
We loaded the live home page and recorded the actual data transferred to the browser, then converted that weight to carbon using the Sustainable Web Design model with the global grid average. We applied a reduction for our renewable-matched hosting and assumed a fresh, uncached visit, which is the heaviest case.
These figures are estimates. The real number depends on your device, your network and how much of the page you load, but the method is transparent and the inputs are real. As the site grows we re-measure and keep this page honest.
